New Yorkers voted last week for public school budgets and board of education candidates in a year when national issues divided many local communities. Turnout was sharply up in many districts. According to the New York State School Boards Association, 99 percent of district budgets were approved, including a handful that overrode the tax cap. We speak with Executive Director Robert Schneider.
