WAMC News Podcast – Episode 175

N.Y. Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s emergency pandemic powers could be rolled back next week. The Democrat is facing new questions about his leadership, and state lawmakers are threatening to strip him of the power to issue emergency orders.

Capital Region State Assemblyman John McDonald, a pharmacist, is a Democrat from the 108th district. He was on the high-profile call with lawmakers and top Cuomo administration officials last week when Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa acknowledged withholding information about COVID-19 deaths of nursing home residents, citing concerns over a federal probe. McDonald says he supports limiting the governor’s emergency powers, and says questions remain about the pandemic response.
