When Stephen Fabes left his job as an E.R. doctor and set out to cycle around the world, frontline medicine quickly faded from his mind. The daily challenges of life on the road stack up as he navigates deserts, mountains, freezing weather, and the overwhelming solitude of cycling solo. Fabes recounts his journey across six continents in his new memoir, Signs of Life: A Doctor’s Journey to the Ends of The Earth. He traveled 53,000 miles over a six-year period. We asked why he chose to leave his lucrative career and take to the road.
Signs of Life: A Doctor’s Journey to the Ends of the Earth is available now, and published by Pegasus.
