This week on the Gazette, Governor Andrew Cuomo is floating the possibility that New York may have to raise taxes to close a pandemic related budget gap. Our political observer Dr. Alan Chartock discusses Cuomo’s remarks regarding the federal response to the new variant of COVID-19 discovered in the UK. Also, Congress has reached a deal on a $900 billion coronavirus relief package. It does not contain direct aid for state and local governments. For the New York State Association of Counties and county executives in the state, that’s a problem.
